I have a couple of intermediate students who are making progress with tense and aspect. The tricky grammar has turned out to be question formation. It’s easy to choose who for people and what for things, but it’s a bit of a challenge to remember that these two wh- words can help us form questions about the subject or the object. If we’re asking about the object, then helping verbs are needed in the simple present and simple past. Which ones?
I created a short set of tasks to work out the kinks and build confidence with this grammar point. If you have students who also need to increase their accuracy when forming questions with what or who, my handout may serve you well.
